Chef Heon Dr. Pepper BBQ Sauce
No Comments
Previously I wrote about my homemade BBQ sauce in which I also hinted at a Dr. Pepper version of my sauce. I figured I'd follow up with a little post that highlighted the process I followed to make this variation. It's pretty easy to make and this version tastes quite good.
Start with my Original BBQ Sauce recipe. Here it is for ease of use:
- 1 1/2 cups dark brown sugar, packed
- 1 1/4 cups Organic Heinz ketchup
- 1/2 cup red wine vinegar
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 2 1/2 teaspoons ground mustard
- 2 teaspoons paprika
- 1 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon liquid smoke
Once you have some Original BBQ Sauce and using a 2:1 ratio add some Dr. Pepper (I used 2 cups of Original BBQ Sauce to 1 cup of Dr. Pepper). Place in a sauce pot, bring to a boil and then simmer on medium heat for 10 minutes.
That is seriously it. This sauce comes out a bit thicker then my Original BBQ Sauce. I really like this sauce, it's become my new go to lately as it was especially delicious added to pulled pork.
